Learning to speak English quickly and efficiently in little time.

If you are reading this you already know some English and NOW you want to Speak English to be understood.
You just need to ACTIVATE your latent knowledge. You can do this in as little as 3 months.
There is one thing you can do to learn to speak English quickly.
I call it the "100% 1English1" method because it involves using English for 100% of the time to speak 1 to 1.

  1. You know some English. You need to understand that your subconscious already knows more than enough English words to communicate and be understood. 1500 words is enough to survive.
  2. 2000 words is all you need to begin. Do a GOOGLE search for the "2000 most common words in English" or click this link to find a list of the words or 2000 most common words flashcards
  3. Live in and English speaking country. You need to commit yourself to spending some money and time to IMMERSE yourself in the culture and language of an English speaking country.
  4. Go on an English learning journey. You need to book your plane, train or ferry ticket to live in an English speaking country.
  5. When you are in the country of your choice, find shared accommodation with share mates who are native speakers of English. This is important because many people end up making friends with people who speak their own language and they don't use 100% of their time to communicate in the target language.
  6. Don't be afraid to make mistakes and ask questions. Communication and being understood are your primary goals. Most native speakers of English will slow their speaking and actively listen to what you want to say.
  7. Socialise Even if you don't drink alcohol you can still go to a bar, night club, sports club, a party and dinners at a friend's home. Cultural understanding is important to learning any language and in informal social situations people are usually relaxed, friendly and either happy to talk about themselves or ask you questions about yourself and where you come from.
  8. Admit you don't know and ask questions. The only stupid question is the one that we don't ask. "What does (unknown word) mean? Can you speak slower? Sorry I don't understand, can you explain it to me another way? How do you spell that? Can you say that a different way?
  9. Enjoy yourself. Happy learners retain knowledge better than unhappy learners.

Every day I meet English learners who are living in the greater Brisbane area and struggling to learn English. The primary reason they take so long to learn to speak English is that they don't use their all time to lean English. There is a mistaken belief that by living in a country and going to English classes for 20 hours per week you can become a native speaker.

The Problem is that these people use their native language at home, have friends who they speak their first language with and rely on their teacher to magically implant English into their head (this is impossible).

There are 168 hours in a week and assuming most people sleep 56 hours per week there are 112 hours in every week that you can immerse yourself in English. This is 92 hours per week more than you can spend in English class.

Look at it this way you can study in an English Class for a year and only get 1040 hours of English learning or you can IMMERSE yourself in learning English for 9 weeks to gain 1008 hours of English learning. If you spent a whole year immersed in the language and culture of your chosen destination you would have gained 5824 hours learning English that 's nearly 6 times as much English as you could learn in an English class.

Peace and a happy English Learning Jorney
